The role of English is most evident in one’s education. Most of the world’s books are written in English. Most of the research papers are published in English and one cannot even think of studying science without learning English. The internet has transformed our lives and it would be funny to imagine an internet without English.

 

The English education in the rural schools in Sri Lanka is very poor and most of the schools lack of necessary equipments and book. To overcome these problems the LORRIS (financial support from the LARGE minority/ Lanka Challenge) developed a special programme to establish an equipped English activity room at the rural schools.

 

This is a user-friendly room which excludes the traditional class-facing method of teaching and thus develop skills that will lead to the joy of learning and will prepare youngsters for life-long learning. Our English room is a multi-functional classroom that accommodates appropriate equipment, organized and easily accessible resources which satisfy the student's diverse needs and interests and facilitate the teacher's work.
